Position Description: The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible tenure track Assistant Professor of Sociology with a focus on study of Gender and/or Global and Transnational Sociology from an empirical perspective. The current position coincides with a general rebuilding of strength in Sociology presently occurring across ASU and within the School. This scholar will be expected to (1) conduct her or his own independent program of research, (2) teach, supervise and mentor B.A.
and M.A students, and (3) engage in service at the unit, college and university levels. Preference will be given to candidates who can collaborate with existing faculty, whose research and teaching focuses
on: gender roles and identities; citizenship and representation; and social justice & human rights.

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is presently in a period of expansion and innovation around new initiatives and new programs. Since Fall 2017, the School has added seven new tenure- track faculty, two new postdoctoral scholars, six new lecturers and a new School Director. This academic year, the School will be conducting searches for three additional tenure-track / tenured faculty, a Clinical Assistant Professor, and a Lecturer as well as two new postdoctoral scholars.

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must a) have a doctoral degree in sociology or related field by the time of appointment; and, b) demonstrate excellence in research commensurate with appointment at the level of Assistant Professor at ASU.

Desired Qualifications: a) empirical research with a focus on study of Gender and/or Global and Transnational Sociology from an empirical perspective; b) a research and/or teaching focus that aligns with current faculty expertise in gender roles and identities; citizenship and representation; and social justice & human rights; c) a willingness to pursue extramural funding to support their program of research; d) an interest in engaging in interdisciplinary collaborations in research; e) a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring; and,
f) demonstrated interest and/or experience in promoting and supporting diversity through service and research.
