SUMMARY:Expert Meeting "Fatima\, One Century after the Apparitions: Ethnographic Approaches to Pilgrimage and Marian Devotion"
DESCRIPTION:Convenor: Anna Fedele (CRIA/ISCTE-IUL). \nPresentation \nThis expert meeting brings together scholars specializing on the study of Marian devotion who have done research on the cult to Our Lady of Fatima. In occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the apparitions in 2017\, this meeting will allow to reflect about the changing meanings related to Our Lady of Fatima and on the experiences of the pilgrims visiting the shrine. \nThis meeting is part of a five-year research project funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology focusing on pilgrimage and lived religion in Fatima\, that privileges an ethnographic approach seeking to understand the pilgrims’ experiences. Through the compilation of life stories and follow-up interviews the aim of this project is to offer an in-depth understanding of the ways in which the pilgrims’ beliefs and practices change and adapt during and after the pilgrimage experience. The encounter and exchange with scholars who have approached religion and Marian devotion from an anthropological and historical perspective will allow to situate the ethnographic findings in a broader context and to analyze continuities and ruptures throughout time. \nThe expert meeting includes a fieldwork excursion to Fatima\, to assess and discuss the changes made at the Marian shrine to mark the centenary of the apparitions\, the papal visit in May 2017 and the canonization of two of the visionaries. This ethnographic excursion will allow to test previous findings and analyses presented and discussed during the first day and open also pathways for new interpretations.

SUMMARY:Apresentação do estudo "O Estado por dentro"
DESCRIPTION:Uma visão etnográfica da Assembleia da República\, de dois tribunais de primeira instância e da Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente.\nEste estudo (coordenado por Daniel Seabra Lopes\, antropólogo do ISEG-ULisboa) apresenta uma visão etnográfica de três funções representativas do Estado: o poder político personificado nos deputados à Assembleia da República; o poder judicial personificado nos magistrados ou oficiais de justiça de dois tribunais de primeira instância; e a gestão do ambiente levada a cabo pelos técnicos da Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente. Metodologicamente apoiado em trabalho de campo intensivo com recurso à observação participante\, o estudo procura dar primazia às pessoas que\, quotidianamente\, fazem do Estado uma realidade concreta e actuante. SUMMARY:Mesa redonda: "Crise da Democracia: crise da esquerda?"
DESCRIPTION:Hoje é inegável que existe uma crise da democracia. Vários factos o atestam\, nomeadamente: o descontentamento dos cidadãos com as instituições que têm como razão de ser a sua representação (partidos\, parlamentos\, governos); o crescimento de alternativas populistas nacionalistas aos partidos democráticos tradicionais\, de que o caso mais gritante foi a vitória de Donald Trump\, nos Estados Unidos; e os sucessos eleitorais dos nacionalistas em vários países europeus. Ao mesmo tempo assiste-se a um abalo profundo dos partidos socialistas e sociais democratas – veja-se a crise do PT no Brasil e o quase desaparecimento do partido socialista na Grécia e em França. \nSerá que a crise da Democracia é consequência da incapacidade de os partidos de esquerda assumirem uma política de alternativa programática quando chegam ao Governo? Será que num mundo globalizado essa alternativa ainda é possível? Será que a corrupção da política e a corrupção dos políticos explicam a descrença nos valores éticos dos partidos de esquerda? O que é a “boa política” hoje? Como vencer a crise da Democracia e criar condições para reais alternativas políticas?
