SUMMARY:IV Seminar Atlantic Centre - Forecasting Atlantic Security and Governance
DESCRIPTION:Oceans remain the great connectors of our time. Through the global ocean run trade and energy routes\, underwater data cables and a myriad of legal and illegal activities\, affecting communities on shore. For most of the 21st century\, interest in Atlantic dynamics was diminished\, with world politics focusing instead on the Pacific. That trend is slowly being reversed and renewed attention is being given to the important dynamics impacting the Atlantic Ocean and the many communities it hosts. New governance needs are being identified to manage the complex dynamics emerging in the Atlantic in a way that favours peace and prosperity in this strategically important area.\nThe IV Seminar of the Atlantic Centre will address these governance needs from the perspective of the changing security dynamics affecting Atlantic communities.\nThis edition will be hosted in several locations throughout a week of events addressing different security issues. SUMMARY:Sessão de Apresentação do Grupo de Estudos Interdisciplinares em Ciências Sociais (GEICS)
DESCRIPTION:De forma breve\, para enquadrar o projeto\, o GEICS é um Grupo de Estudos vinculado ao Centro Interdisciplinar de Ciências Sociais – Polo da Universidade do Minho (CICS.NOVA.UMinho) que funciona enquanto grupo desde 2018. Este caracteriza-se por ser um coletivo composto por pessoas de diversas nacionalidades e diferentes áreas e ciclos de estudos\, que discutem\, a cada duas semanas\, temas de interesse partilhado. Geralmente\, realizam-se duas reuniões mensais: uma reunião “fechada” aos membros para debate de material previamente estudado e uma segunda reunião em formato de conferência – Conferências GEICS – que\, geralmente\, conta com a presença de especialistas na área temática eleita para o mês em questão\, procurando aprofundar a discussão em torno dessa mesma temática e responder a questionamentos que\, eventualmente\, surgem. \nO Grupo tem como uma das suas premissas principais a partilha\, por meio do fomento da discussão e problematização de temáticas que inquietam os seus membros\, bem como a premissa de tornar o conhecimento algo acessível a todos e não apenas num privilégio de alguns.
