SUMMARY:Seminar series "Toward an integrative cognitive science of social inequalities" (spring semester 2024)
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this seminar series is to discuss research coming out of the fields of cognitive science and sociology\, with the hope of articulating the social and cognitive dimensions of inequalities. Are there bridges between these two fields? What are the challenges for interdisciplinary research? Although the differences between the fields of cognitive science and sociology cannot be denied\, the goal of this seminar is to facilitate scientific exchange among communities of researchers interested in questions that relate to social inequality. \nSeminars will be held online. DESCRIPTION:14 maio – 18h00\, Auditório da Casa Comum\, Reitoria da Universidade do Porto \nCoordenação: Helena Vilaça\, Maria João Oliveira e Anne-Laure Zwilling \npublicado pela U.Porto Press e pelo Instituto de Sociologia da Universidade do Porto. \nA apresentação da obra ficará a cargo de Anabela Costa Leão\, Professora Auxiliar da Faculdade de Direito da Universidade do Porto (FDUP) e Investigadora do Centro de Investigação Interdisciplinar em Justiça (CIJ-FDUP). Nesta sessão marcarão também presença João Teixeira Lopes\, Coordenador do Instituto de Sociologia (IS-UP) e Maria João Oliveira\, Investigadora so IS-UP e uma das coordenadora da publicação. \nEsta obra resulta de um Congresso realizado na Universidade do Porto\, em 2021\, subordinado ao tema das regulamentações das religiões na Europa\, vista de múltiplas perspetivas – legal\, social\, histórica\, política ou cultural. \nO debate centra-se nas relações Estado-religiões nas sociedades pós modernas\, caracterizadas pelo pluralismo religioso. \nOrganizada em duas partes\, a publicação inclui uma parte dedicada às abordagens teóricas da regulamentação das religiões na Europa e outra  a abordagens mais práticas\, relativas a situações específicas e estudos de caso em diferentes países europeus. \nEntrada Livre – A sessão será conduzida em língua inglesa. \nContemporary Challenges to the Regulation of Religions in Europe sheds light on the relationship between the state and religion in late modern society\, offering new analyses of how religion is regulated\, taking into account both formal and informal aspects of this regulation. \nThis book brings together contributions from scholars of law\, sociology and other social sciences\, who discuss religious regulation in late modern society. The relationship between the state and religion is an important issue for contemporary democratic societies characterised by increasing plurality. Their analysis\, however\, has most often focused on models centred on the majority/minority dichotomy\, which supposedly explains the diversity of national strategies of religious regulation. This book\, on the contrary\, is based on a plural approach\, and aims to expose the elements that allow a broader definition of the configuration of the contemporary religious field.
