Lembramos que a eleição para os órgãos sociais da International Sociological Association terá lugar durante o XIX ISA World Congress of Sociology, July 15-21, 2018, em Toronto, Canadá.

João Teixeira Lopes, Presidente da Associação Portuguesa de Sociologia é um dos candidatos nomeados para o Executive Committee. A sua formação académica e experiência profissional em vários âmbitos (ensino, investigação, direcção da APS, organização de eventos científicos, etc.) conferem-lhe o perfil indicado para ser um excelente representante da sociologia portuguesa neste novo desafio.

The Nominating Committees of the Research Council and of the Council of National Associations are pleased to announce a list of nominees (attached) for ISA officers election which will take place during the XIX ISA World Congress of Sociology, July 15-21, 2018, in Toronto, Canada.

Let me also clarify the election process:

1. The President and 4 Vice-Presidents are elected by the Assembly of Council on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, 21:00-23:00. Prior to the elections, on Monday, July 16, 2018, 21:00-23.00, Candidates for President and Vice-Presidents will make their presentations at an Open Meeting for all congress participants. Candidates for President shall have 10 minutes, and candidates for Vice-President shall have 5 minutes each.

2. Then both the Council of National Associations (July 19, 2018, 17:30-19:30) and the Research Council (July 19, 2018, 21:00-23:00) will each elect eight members to the Executive Committee. Preceded by short statements (5 minutes) by candidates

3. Nominations may also be made from the floor at all elections, if supported by five members present and made with the consent of the candidate.

On behalf of the ISA and its members, I’d like to thank all those who have put themselves forward, as well as their nominators, for election. I also take this opportunity to thank the respective chairs and members of the nominations committees of the Research Council and of the Council of National Associations for their work. We are very fortunate to have a strong slate of candidates. I will encourage members to attend the candidates’ speeches on Monday, July 16, and to convey their views about the candidates to their delegates in the Research Council and Council of National Associations.
