Invitation for members of your association to participate in our international survey on the Public Role of Sociology in the world today. This work has been commissioned by the Australian Sociological Association (TASA).

You can read more about the project on the TASA website here.

The purpose of this study is to understand how sociology graduates and sociologists who work within (or with) universities are currently engaging with the wider public, including private industry, various levels of government, the NGO/charity sector and the media.

This important work will help us take stock of the state of sociology today and the challenges and opportunities we will face as sociologists tomorrow. It will help establish sociology’s public profile, activities, influence, and barriers to wider engagement, and assist in the development of long-term strategies for sociologists and sociological organisations around the world to expand their public engagement.

We are inviting anyone who meets one of the following criteria to participate:

 1) Is a current member of a professional sociological association (such as yours).

 2) Is undertaking or has completed an honours, masters, or PhD degree in sociology.

 3) Regularly teaches, researches, or applies sociology in any sector (i.e. university, industry, charity, government, media).

Participants will need to complete an online survey which will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Participation in this research is voluntary and all information will remain confidential.

We would also really appreciate it if participants could forward this email and share the survey with other sociology colleagues and graduates in their networks.

This project has been approved by the executive of The Australian Sociological Association (TASA), and the University of Wollongong Human Research Ethics Committee (Ref 2021/425). You must be aged 18 and over to participate.
