We would like to inform that the project SustInAfrica – Sustainable intensification of food production through resilient farming systems in West & North Africa, funded by EU Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement 861924, https://www.sustinafrica.com, will soon be awarding one research contract or postdoc position (with ISEG) depending on more or less 3years work after PhD, for doctorates on Environmental Sciences / Social Sciences (ecological economics; development economics) / Sustainability Sciences.
This research position will focus on sustainable intensification agriculture, and particularly on data collection, assessment and monitoring regarding socio-economic and governance contexts associated to the African agri-food systems and on the analysis of agri-food products value chains.
A significant part of the work will consist of:
I. planning fieldwork and data collection in Africa (5 countries) and follow/do part of the field work;
II. conduct qualitative and quantitative research based on the data collected mostly related with socio-economic analysis and governance and socio-ecologic interactions;
III. support team regarding database structure and content; and
IV. support all the project tasks related with project management and communication.
Regarding other requirements, previous experience in multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary projects will be welcome, as the methodological framework is clearly multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary, comprising different tasks rooted in the fields of environmental and social sciences. They should further be familiar with the existing concepts related with agri-food systems and be able to place research in the African context, preferable with field experience. Experience in designing and applying social methods (e.g., surveys, focus groups) will also be valued.
Team spirit, skills for autonomous work and availability for traveling abroad in different time periods, are other requirements. The working language is English, and candidates most prove their ability to write and expose ideas consistent with the scientific writing. Appropriate skills in Portuguese and French will further be an advantage.
