The 16th ESA Porto Conference is approaching and we are delighted to have the opportunity to meet you and work together very soon!

An updated version of the general programme can be consulted here. It includes everything you need to know to have a great time at the conference and in the city.

All presentations in regular sessions will take place in Venues A, C and L. You can download the following maps to locate each area and room more easily. If you have any questions about the sessions/presentations, please contact your RN/RS coordinators for further indications. You can find their email addresses here. If you have questions regarding other sessions or services, you can approach the office members or the volunteers supporting the conference at the different venues.

Opening ceremony  and Plenary 1 – Transformation | Super Bock Arena/ Rosa Mota Pavilion

We would like to kindly inform you that the Opening Session will take place on 27 August, 4:30 pm, at the Super Bock Arena (Rosa Mota Pavilion) and will count with speeches by Lígia Ferro (ESA President 2021-24), Teresa Sordé (Conference Co-Chair), Paulo Peixoto (Local Organising Committee Chair), José Castro Lopes (Vice-Rector of the University of Porto) and Rui Moreira (Mayor of the City Council). The opening will be followed by the first plenary session of the conference, with keynote speeches by Professor Michael Burawoy (University of California Berkeley, USA) and Professor Anália Torres (University of Lisbon, Portugal). A welcome reception and celebrations of the 30th Anniversary of the ESA will follow the opening ceremony.

Registration Area | Bar (Floor 0) | Venue L – Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto | August 28th-30th

The registration desks are located in the Bar (Floor 0 of Venue L – Faculty of Humanities of the University of Porto) and will run between August 28 and 30, opening at 8:00 am on the first day and at 8:30 am on the following days. All participants will be provided with a Conference Kit and any other assistance they may require.

*The name tag you will receive will be essential to access all the conference services (lunch boxes, dinner, party, etc.). Please be sure to always carry your name tag during the whole conference and not to lose it because you will have to show it on different occasions.

Plenary 2 – Trust, Social Dinner and Conference Party | Porto Customs House

Chantelle Jessica Lewis (University of Oxford, United Kingdom), Jason Arday (University of Cambridge, United Kingdom) and Nira Yuval-Davis (University of East London, United Kingdom) will take part in Plenary 2 on 29 August at the Porto Customs House. This will be followed by the Conference Dinner and party, open only to registered participants. We will count with the concert by the Brazilian artist Karla da Silva and two DJ sets at the party!

General Assembly and Plenary 3 – Transformation / Casa da Música

All ESA members are invited to the General Assembly, which takes place on 30 August, 16:30, at the Casa da Música. Finally, Plenary 3 with Michael Biggs (University of Oxford, UK) and Jana Hainsworth (Independent Consultant) will start at 6 pm in the same venue.
