CNEP Data Update: Polarization Indexes Dataset + Germany 1990, Merge 75
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce two new additions to the CNEP data archive.
Polarization Indexes Dataset
We have released a comprehensive dataset of standardized affective and ideological polarization indexes based on Markus Wagner (2020) and Russell Dalton (2008) formulas. The dataset includes six distinct measures with coverage ranging from 42 to 66 cases:
Affective Polarization:
WAPSL – Weighted spread of like-dislike scores toward leaders (59 cases)
WAPDL – Weighted mean distance from most-liked leader (59 cases)
InLikeL – In-leader liking (59 cases)
OutDislikeL – Out-leader dislike (59 cases)
Ideological Polarization:
IE – Ideological extremism (66 cases)
WPIP – Weighted perceived ideological polarization (42 cases)
These standardized measures allow direct comparison across political systems, time periods, and electoral processes spanning 5 continents.
Merge 75: Germany 1990
We have restored and added the Germany 1990 data to the merge, split into two separate cases:
GE90W (West Germany 1990)
GE90E (East Germany 1990)
Both cases include the complete set of polarization indexes and full documentation from the original CNEP-GESIS collaboration.
