2º Urban Audiovisual Festival

The Urban Audio-visual Festival – UAF emerges as a place for discussion and dialogue between professionals who work on urban life. This scientific meeting aims to promote the production of quality and the dissemination of the audio-visual work carried out by researchers and filmmakers in the field of urban studies, as well as other related disciplines. The UAF is a collaborative initiative between CIES-IUL, CICS-NOVA and IS-UP.

Scientific audio-visual production, not very considered by many disciplines, finds in the UAF a privileged scenario, both for the presentation of works and for the evaluation of the audio-visual methods applied to the study of the urban. Likewise, the UAF invites its screens to unconventional productions, made with mobile devices or exploring other forms of production of moving images. The use of new techniques is another of the main objectives of the UAF, as it aims to make known the innovations made and their multiple applications to the study of contemporary cities.

Up to a certain point, the way we move to cities is the way we live cities. We choose our transportation based on the time, the safety of the way etc. From home to work or to the school, from work to a leisure activity, to visit a friend, regardless of where we are going, we always think about the best way to commute and get there.

However, getting around the city is not a democratic act, yet. Living in the periphery is not the same as living in the city center, and such a distinction implies the time of travel, the costs and the supply of the types of transportation that we will have access to. On the other hand, and simultaneously, new forms of mobility emerge every day that are not always consensual in the urban context where they arise.

In this sense, cities are constructed, and are always in transformation, thinking about possible forms of mobility. However, these constructions do not always respond to everyone in the same way; making the city an unequal product for mobility. It should also be noted that mobility itself is experienced differently and unequally, whether by race, gender, class or other issues.

Thinking about these and other topics is the challenge that we have launched for the 2nd edition of the Urban Audiovisual Festival, which will talk about Urban Mobility.

We invite you to submit your audiovisual projects and have a closer read to this extended call.
