The RN24/SSTNET – Sociology of Science and Technology Network invites scholars and researchers to submit sociological contributions that critically explore the multifaceted role of technology in shaping and responding to today’s global challenges, with particular attention to those faced by Europe.
In a context marked by rapid technological advances and mounting global crises, Europe—and the European Union in particular—must navigate a constantly evolving sociotechnical landscape. Climate change, economic inequality, geopolitical instability, and digital transformation are profoundly reshaping institutions and societies. Rather than treating technology merely as a solution or a disruptive force, this call seeks contributions that examine how technological practices, imaginaries, and infrastructures are embedded in, and constitutive of, wider sociopolitical dynamics. Through this sociological lens, we aim to foster criticalreflection on issues of governance, ethics, security, and justice as integral to the complex processes through which technologies emerge and operate.
