President, Paulo Peixoto. APS Member nº 1191 da APS. Member of the APS Executive Committee since 2016. Associate Professor with aggregation of the Sociology course at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra; Student Ombudsman at the University of Coimbra; member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Research and Action on Fraud and Plagiarism in Academia. He coordinated the Sociology nucleus at FEUC and the Master’s Degree in Sociology at UC. He was Chairman of the Board of SNESup (2006-2008); Executive Director of CES (2008-2010); and Assistant Director of FEUC (2011-2013). He coordinates scientific research and university extension projects. His research interests are currently directed to the domains of urban sociology and sociology of education.

Vice-President, Dalila Cerejo. APS member nº 1987 da APS. PhD in Sociology from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, she is currently Assistant Professor at NOVA/FCSH and Integrated Researcher at CICS.NOVA (NOVA/FCSH) where she is deputy director and coordinator of the Research Group on Social Inequalities and Public Action. She is also a researcher at the National Observatory on Violence and Gender (ONVG). Her professional career has been marked by research in the area of violence and gender inequalities, sociology of emotions and theories of social action.

Vice-Presidente, Lígia Ferro. APS member nº 2334. Member of the APS Ethics Council (2012-2016), and member of the Executive Committee since 2016. Vice-President of the European Sociology Association since 2019 and coordinator of the RN of Urban Sociology from 2017 to 2019. Member of the board of the “European Network of Observatories in the Fields of Arts and Cultural Education” (since 2017). Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts, University of Porto. She obtained a European Doctorate from ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, in 2011. She developed research with a FCT post-doctoral grant at the UP Sociology Institute and at the Center for Research and Studies in Sociology, CIES-ISCTE. She has been a visiting researcher at several Universities in Europe, the United States and Brazil. She has lately developed research in the field of sociology, focusing on different themes in the fields of education, culture, arts and education, especially in urban contexts. President of the European Sociological Associations, elected September 2021.

Alexandra Aníbal. APS member nº 509. PhD in sociology at ISCTE-IUL in 2014, having completed a bachelor’s degree (1990) and a master’s degree (1999) in sociology at FCSH-UNL. Since 1991, she has been working as a senior technician at the Lisbon City Council, in the areas of education, training and culture. She has worked in adult education and training programs and in the validation of non-formal and informal learning, both at the Lisbon municipality and at the Employment and Vocational Training Institute. She is currently in the Municipal Directorate of Culture of that municipality, coordinating participatory projects in the area of culture and the collection of local memories.

Ana Maria Brandão. APS member nº 1371 da APS. Sociologist, Prof. Assistant at the Department of Sociology at the University of Minho and Integrated Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Social Sciences – University of Minho Hub (CICS.NOVA.UMinho). She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Minho. Her research interests focus on processes of identity (re)construction in modernity, especially with regard to the intersection between sexuality and gender, and on social research methodologies.

Bruno Dionísio. APS member nº 2043. Professor at the Department of Sociology at the University of Évora and an integrated researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Social Sciences (CICS.NOVA.UÉvora). Doctorate in Sociology from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He works, above all, on themes related to justice, controversies, vulnerabilities and attention devices in the area of school social intervention.

Nuno Amaral Jerónimo. APS member n.º 2943 Degree and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Beira Interior. Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, University of Beira Interior and researcher at LabCom – UBI. He is a guest researcher at the Faculty of Creative Industries at the Gediminas Technical University of Vilnius, Lithuania, where he coordinates the research group on “Communication, Culture and Citizenship”. He investigates in the areas of culture, communication, and consumption, with a particular focus on humor and comedy, the subject of his doctoral thesis. He is a columnist for the weekly O Interior. He was editor of Inimigo Público, of Atlântico magazine, and columnist of the daily ‘i’.

Nuno Dias. APS member n.º 2716. Degree in Sociology from FCSH-Universidade Nova de Lisboa and a PhD in Social Sciences from ICS-Universidade de Lisboa. He has researched and published on the relationships between migrations, labor market segmentation and gender. The processes of racialization in colonial and post-colonial contexts and the link with models of participation and diversity management are also research interests. He has coordinated public policy evaluation projects in the domains of migration and gender and is an Integrated Researcher at DINÂMIA’CET_iscte and Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology at FCSH-UNL.

Vogal (suplente), José Carlos Marques. Sócio APS n.º 903. José Carlos Laranjo Marques, doutorado em Sociologia pela Universidade de Coimbra e agregado em Sociologia pela Universidade Nova. Professor Coordenador Principal do Instituto Politécnico de Leiria e Investigador do polo de Leiria do Centro Interdisciplinar de Ciências Sociais (CICS.NOVA). Os seus interesses de investigação têm incidido sobre a emigração portuguesa, a imigração em Portugal, as políticas migratórias, a migração qualificada e o processo de integração dos migrantes.

Vítor Sérgio Ferreira. APS member n.º 860. Degree in Sociology (1995) and a Ph.D. in Sociology, in the specialty of Sociology of Communication, Culture and Education (2006), by Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa). He is an assistant researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa), where, in addition to research and teaching activities at postgraduate level, he is deputy coordinator of the Permanent Youth Observatory (since 2010) and coordinator of research group LIFE – Pathways of Life, Inequalities and Solidarity: Practices and Policies (since 2016). His areas of investigation and reflection have focused on the sociology of youth, sociology of the body and qualitative research methods and techniques.

President,  Ana Delicado. APS member n.º 1531. Assistant researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon. Degree in sociology from FCSH-UNL, master and doctorate in sociology from the University of Lisbon. She works primarily in social studies of science. She is currently conducting research on public engagement with science, renewable energy and digital technologies. She is a member of the APS Advisory Board (2018-2021) and coordinated the Knowledge, Science and Technology Thematic Section of the APS between 2014 and 2018. She currently coordinates the RN24 Science and Technology at ESA.

Vice-president,  Sónia Pintassilgo. APS member n.º 1956. She is a sociologist and demographer. She is an assistant professor at Iscte, where she teaches and coordinates Sociology and Demography Curriculum Units in different courses. She is a researcher at the Center for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-IUL), in the Family, Generations and Health research line. She co-coordinates the Laboratory of Social Studies on Nascimento-nascer.pt. Her main research interests are in the areas of Demography, Population Sociology and Birth and Maternity Sociology.

Secretary,  Helena Mateus Jerónimo. APS member n.º 1138. PhD in Social and Political Sciences / Sociology from the University of Cambridge, after having obtained a master’s degree from ISCTE and a degree from the University of Coimbra. Is an assistant professor at ISEG, University of Lisbon, where she teaches in the area of Human Resource Management (HRM) and Organizational Behavior. Co-coordinator of the Masters in Human Resources Management and the Management Degree at ISEG. Researcher at Advance/CSG (Research in Social Sciences and Management). Her research themes and publications are on science and technology, risks and uncertainty, environment and sustainability, and HRM. She is currently a member of UNESCO’s COMEST (Commission on the Ethics of Science and Technology).

President,  Cristina Parente. APS member n.º 340. Associate Professor with Aggregation (2014) at the Sociology Department at FLUP and a researcher at the Institute of Sociology at the same institution since 1991. Since 2014, has been director of the degree in Sociology. Completed a postdoctoral degree in Management at the Center for Postgraduate Studies in Management Research at the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the Univ. Federal de Minas Gerais (2012) and developed as a guest researcher a research on the Solidarity Economy Ecosystem in Barcelona, within the scope of the Government and Public Policy Institute (IGOP) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), integrating the Solidarity Economy Network Catalan (XES – Xarxa d’Economy Solidarity) (2015). Develops activities both as a researcher and as coordinator and scientific responsible for projects on the themes of sociology of organizations, social and solidarity economy, agroecology, social entrepreneurship, human resources management and adult education.

João Carlos Graça. APS member nº 2894. Assistant Professor at the Higher Institute of Economics and Management (ISEG), aggregated in economic sociology (2009) and researcher at SOCIUS/CSG-ISEG. Has investigated in economic sociology, political sociology and the history of ideas. Was part of the teams of several research projects, having been the responsible researcher for the projects “Economic Values, Beliefs and Behaviors: Impacts on Economic Development at Regional and Local Levels” (2008-10) and “Tax evasion, tax avoidance and tax compliance in Portugal: Individual, economic and social factors” (2010-12), both funded by FCT. Jorge Caleiras.  APS member nº 2924. Is a senior member of the Social Security Institute since 1998 and an integrated researcher at CIES-ISCTE. PhD in Sociology from FEUC, he has developed research and published in the areas of the labor market, social policies and employment. Among the publications, the following stand out: Beyond the Numbers: The Personal Consequences of Unemployment; The Return of Massive Unemployment? (co-authored); Between Regression and Mitigation: Paths and Deviations of Employment Policies in Portugal; The Labyrinth of Employment Policies (co-authored); The Articulation of Employment and Social Inclusion Strategies (co-authored); Bridges for Inclusion: A Portuguese Overview; Is (Un)employment a source of poverty? (co-authored). He was a member of the Advisory Board of APS, awarded António Dornelas / 2017 and was part of teams in several research projects, already completed or in progress.

President,  Sílvia Portugal.  APS member n.º 409. PhD in Sociology from the University of Coimbra. Assistant Professor at FEUC. Researcher and Provider at the Center for Social Studies (CES). Her research work has used network theory to discuss the relationships between formal and informal systems of welfare production. In this context, she has been researching the importance of the family in the Portuguese social protection system, with special emphasis on the role of women. His most recent research and research interests focus on the issues of disability and mental illness. She was a member of the APS Executive Committee (2008-2010) and was Vice President of the General Assembly (2000-2002).

Hélder Raposo. APS member n.º 3191. Professor of Sociology at the School of Health Technology in Lisbon, Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (ESTeSL-IPL), where he has been teaching since 2004. He is a researcher at the Center for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES) of the ISCTE-IUL/Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and at H&TRC – Center for Research in Health and Technology. He is also a member of the Permanent Observatory for the Analysis and Monitoring of the Professional Insertion of Graduates by ESTESL. He holds a Masters in Sociology (2006) from ISCTE-IUL, and a Ph.D. in Sociology (2014) from the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ICS-UL). Between 2014 and 2018 he was a member of the coordinating team of the thematic section “Knowledge, Science and Technology” of the Portuguese Association of Sociology (APS). Between 2012 and 2019 he was a member of the Health Ethics Committee of the Regional Health Administration of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (CES-ARSLVT). He is currently Vice President of the Ethics Committee at ESTeSL. One of the main areas of interest and scientific investigation is the Sociology of Knowledge, namely medical knowledge and standardization processes. Other topics of interest and investigation are Therapeutic consumption and the Ethics of scientific investigation.

Luísa Veloso.  APS member n.º 341. Assistant Professor at Iscte-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa. Researcher at Cies-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa. Associate Researcher at the Institute of Sociology – University of Porto. Professor at the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto between 1991 and 2008. Coordinator and member of research teams of several national and international projects. Author of several publications. Main research interests: work, innovation, science and technology, economics and professions.

Susana Costa. APS member nº 1431. Researcher at the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra. PhD in Sociology from the University of Coimbra. She was co-coordinator of the Center for Studies in Science, Economy and Society between 2015 and 2020 and co-founder and co-coordinator of the thematic section of Knowledge Science and Technology at APS between 2010 and 2014. She is a Lecturer in the Master of Criminology at ISMAI. Her investigations focus on social studies of science, sociology of science, sociology of law, focusing on the relationships between science and law and the use of DNA in criminal investigation and aid to justice. Author of two books: “A Justiça em Laboratório” (Almedina, 2003); “Sons of (your) mother” (Almedina, 2012) and co-author of “Science in the fight against crime” (Húmus, 2012), “From the crime scene to the court. Forensic Trajectories and Cultures” (Pactor, 2020) and several articles in scientific journals.

Susana Silva. APS member n.º 1197. Principal Investigator at the Public Health Institute of the University of Porto (ISPUP), where she coordinates the Department of Health and Society; Visiting Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. She has been a member of the ISPUP Board of Directors since 2015. Her research explores the societal and ethical challenges arising from the use of reproductive and genetic technologies. It intersects quantitative and qualitative methodologies to analyze integrated and citizen-centred health care and policies and to discuss contemporary forms of governance and regulation of health research and clinical practice. Vasco Ramos. APS member n.º 2955. Assistant Researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon. Has a PhD in Sociology from the University of Lisbon (2015). Is currently developing a research project entitled “Food in transition: changes in eating habits throughout the life course”. His research interests are multiple and interdisciplinary, but with a focus on issues of social inequality. He has been working in the field of sociology of family and affective life and, more recently, in food and eating practices. At ICS he is part of the Research Group “LIFE-Paths of Life, Inequality and Solidarity: Practices and Policies” and the OFAP-Observatory of Families and Family Policies. He is an elected member of the Scientific Council and the Ethics Council.

Álvaro Borralho. APS member n.º 718. Doctor in Social Sciences, specializing in Sociology, from the University of the Azores. Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences. Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Social Sciences at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, group 2: Citizenship, Work and Technology – Political Participation, Activism and Leadership, and at the University of the Azores (CICS.NOVA / CICS.NOVA.UAc / CICS.UAc ). Specialty area: Sociology, Sociology of Power and Politics. Research areas: Politics, State and Church, political participation, citizenship. He was founder and co-coordinator of the Azores Regional Nucleus of the Portuguese Association of Sociology. He was a member of the National Education Council representing the Autonomous Region of the Azores. He was a member of the board and president of the National Council of SNESup (National Union of Higher Education).

Eugénia Rodrigues. APS member n.º 838. Teaches at the University of Edinburgh in the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation Studies. Completed her basic training at the University of Coimbra (FEUC and CES) and holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of York (England). Investigates in areas of intersection between the sociology of the environment and the social studies of science, namely with regard to public participation in science and technology. Founded and is a member of SKAPE, Center for Science, Knowledge and Policy at the University of Edinburgh.
