Course “Collaborative Childhoods Practicum”
Course in January 2026: Collaborative Childhoods Practicum, it is intended for a practitioner audience–teachers, social workers, youth workers, anyone in peadiatrics, or clinical/community psychologists, but also those with ‘desk jobs’ charged with designing policy and programmes for children and young people, all of who may be interested in doing some professional development, becoming acquainted with childhood studies and collaborative approaches to working with children and young people, who would like to maybe do things a bit differently, and to meet other like minded practitioners to work in a community of practice which they can hopefully also maintain post course.
It’s a 10-week course that will run online in the evenings (6-8pm London time). It will be in English but open to anyone to apply from any part of the world where the timezones align. The plan is to assemble a small group, not more than 12 participants, and there are currently 9 places still available. The deadline for applications is Monday 3rd November.
For the teaching part of the course I will drawing on my own background, research and teaching experience in childhood studies and children’s participation as well as experiences of creating childhood publics. I also will be joined by two incredible guest speakers whose work–in counselling in social work adjacent settings and in school settings respectively–I really admire and I am really delighted that they agreed to be part of the course. As the course name suggests there is a very practical element to it and those applying need to be able to bring with them ‘a moment of practice’ they are willing to share and workshop with the group along the lines of the training.
More details about the course, including fees, can be found here in the link just below. There are two discounted places available too with the possibility of one or both of those fees being waived if enough employer-funded places can be filled: https://www.melissanolas.com/collaborative-childhoods-practicum
