CfA Funding for Research Sabbaticals (Fellowships) and Working Groups
The Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) funds innovative research on the societal impact of digital transformation. We support individual researchers (fellows) and collaborative projects (working groups).
Fellowships: Time and Space for Focus and Inspiration
A fellowship at CAIS provides the freedom to dedicate yourself to your research and the opportunity to become part of a vibrant interdisciplinary community. Step away from daily work routines to gain new perspectives and build lasting connections.
As a fellow, you can spend either six or three months in Bochum, Germany. During this time, we will cover your sabbatical leave from work through financial compensation (e.g. for a teaching substitute) or provide grants of up to 2.000 € per month. In addition, we will provide a fully furnished apartment free of charge. You can invite guests for collaboration and receive financial support for research expenses. Private offices and meeting rooms with modern facilities offer optimal working conditions.

Working Groups: Boost Your Research Collaboration
A working group at CAIS enables you to assemble your own team of experts from different locations to collaborate in a stimulating environment.
We provide modern meeting facilities and catering for groups of up to ten members. In addition, we will cover travel and accommodation expenses. You can spend up to three weeks in Bochum or get together for several shorter meetings.

Application
The next deadline for applications is 7. You can currently apply for a fellowship taking place between April and September 2027, or for working group meetings in 2027. Please use the application forms provided on our website.
The funding program is open to excellent scholars and practitioners at all career stages and from all disciplines. Both fundamental research and applied projects are welcome.

A working group at CAIS enables you to assemble your own team of experts from different locations to collaborate in a stimulating environment.
We provide modern meeting facilities and catering for groups of up to ten members. In addition, we will cover travel and accommodation expenses. You can spend up to three weeks in Bochum or get together for several shorter meetings.
Application
The next deadline for applications is 19 December 2025. You can currently apply for working group meetings in 2027. Please use the application form provided on our website.
The funding program is open to excellent scholars and practitioners at all career stages and from all disciplines. Both fundamental research and applied projects are welcome.

CEEC Individual – 8.ª edição | Candidaturas para acolhimento CRIA: investigadores/as juniores
Concurso Estímulo ao Emprego Científico Individual – 8.ª Edição (CEEC Individual) | Candidaturas para acolhimento CRIA
O CRIA informa que o concurso individual para o financiamento de 400 contratos para investigadores doutorados em todas as áreas científicas, no âmbito do programa Estímulo ao Emprego Científico Individual promovido pela Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), estará aberto de 15 de dezembro de 2025 a 29 de janeiro de 2026.
Todas as informações relativas ao concurso podem ser encontradas na página da FCT, embora nem toda a documentação, nem a plataforma estejam ainda disponíveis.
O CRIA está disponível para ser instituição de acolhimento para Investigadores Juniores.
Os/as interessados/as em ter o CRIA como instituição de acolhimento devem manifestar o seu interesse até às 11h00 (hora de Lisboa) do dia 18 de dezembro de 2025, preenchendo o formulário aqui: https://forms.gle/LbKw948y6TnwHrkC8
Elementos obrigatórios em inglês, tal como solicitado pela FCT:
1) Grupo de Investigação e Polo do CRIA (universidade associada ao CRIA) onde integrará a sua candidatura;
2) Percurso científico e curricular: resumo do percurso científico e curricular e principais atividades e resultados obtidos desde a data de obtenção do PhD (máximo 3 páginas);
3) Título provisório e 5 palavras-chave (por favor evite repetir palavras que já se encontrem no título);
4) Plano de investigação: deve incluir a definição e contextualização dos objetivos e questões científicas, atividades a desenvolver e resultados esperados. O plano de investigação proposto deverá ainda demonstrar a sua integração na estratégia da unidade de investigação e do grupo de investigação no âmbito do qual será desenvolvido** (máximo 3 páginas);
5) Plano de desenvolvimento de carreira (2027-2030) (máximo 3 páginas, indicando quais as atividades que pretende desenvolver no CRIA, além do CEEC Individual).

A decisão sobre as candidaturas que o CRIA aceitará acolher será comunicada no dia 22 de dezembro 2025.
Candidaturas ao CRIA que não contenham os elementos obrigatórios e/ou recebidas fora do prazo limite (18/12/2025, até às 11h00, hora de Lisboa) e/ou que não sejam submetidas através do formulário, não serão admitidas.
A candidatura ao CRIA enquanto instituição de acolhimento não substitui a candidatura à FCT, a ser submetida no portal MYFCT entre 15 de dezembro de 2025 e as 17:00 de 29 de janeiro de 2026 (hora de Lisboa).
As instituições de acolhimento associam-se às respetivas candidaturas entre 30 de janeiro e 13 de fevereiro de 2026.
